Legislator Tom Cilmi (R-East Islip) announced that November will be declared “Military Career Month” in Suffolk County. The designation is intended to foster educational engagement with the military to help expose students to the vast array of academic and career opportunities offered by the various branches of the armed services.

United States Army Captain Joshua Summer said, “Suffolk County is full of talented, motivated, and patriotic Americans who are eager to serve when made aware of opportunities and personally challenged. This legislation will go a long way in improving awareness and allowing the people of Suffolk County to make the best possible choice for their futures.”

Legislator Cilmi said, “The United States Armed Forces offer wonderful opportunities for young folks regardless of their intended career path. Not only can they develop career-oriented skills through real life training, but in many respects, the physical and mental training help build character, which is invaluable. Additionally, the military can help with college funding and  provides a unique opportunity to serve our Nation. This declaration will help establish meaningful relationships between our military and our school districts which will benefit our students and our Country.”
